Veteran's Memorial Plaza This memorial, a 100-foot tall granite shaft formerly known as Obelisk Square, was originally designed to honor World War I veterans. The Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial Once a training field and a Civil War encampment, the site of the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial is located downtown in White River State Park. The memorial is dedicated to thousands of men and women who acted "above and beyond the call of duty" and recieved the Congressional Medal of Honor (the highest award for military valor in the United States). Monument Circle This park, considered the center of downtown Indianapolis, contains memorials to veterans of American wars from the American Revolution to the US Civil War.
